Adjacent to the Berliner Dom and Altes Museum, the proposed Institute of Ethical Fashion is located on the historically controversial site of Schloss Platz. The site has previously been home to both a Royal Palace and People’s Palace, and the city of Berlin has recently begun (re)construction of a palace on the site, a project that has divided public opinion.

During the world recession of 2008, ethical fashion was the only growing sector of the global fashion industry. Berlin had already begun to identify with ethical fashion, with young designers holding shows in unusual settings. Since the conception of this project, in 2015 Berlin now has an ethical fashion week every year.
